About the project

Raven Renewables was asked to work with The Grange Centre in Bookham to install solar panels to its community building.

The Grange Centre is a charity that provides support to people with learning disabilities. It was faced with constantly inflating energy bills for its rambling buildings that include social housing, skills training facilities, community space, and a heated therapy swimming pool.

The solar panel installation took place in early 2023, securing a total of 85 solar panels to 5 roofs.  Using 400W All Black Mono solar panels, the new energy source was expected to generate 28381 kWh over a typical year.

Calculations showed that the system would pay for itself in six years and that the project could save over £315,000 on electricity bills in 25 years, with the potential for a further £35,000 to be earned by selling excess energy to the national grid.

With knowledge of the renewable energy sector and grant funding available, Raven Renewables was also able to help the client secure half of the funding needed to carry out the solar panel installation to their building.

Client feedback

Hugh Skeil, Head of Finance and Transformation at The Grange Centre, said: “We are so pleased to see these solar panels installed. We believe that they will generate big savings that will make a huge difference to the people we support. Raven Renewables has been a super company to work with – the team are experts in their field. Mark Gardiner was painstaking in his approach, and very patient answering all our questions and ensuring that the system was the optimum size for our needs. As a result, we were able to access funding from LoCASE Surrey, which will cover 40% of the costs of the project.

“Their management of the whole process and helpful, professional service has given us the confidence to tackle this project, leaving us free to concentrate on our priority, which is helping people in our community.”
